Little Wikipedia joke for ya there.
I spent most of the weekend on systems of measurement. Because I obsess about making things universal and compatible, I've made all distances in the game in yard-meters, a fictional unit of measurement that is equal to a meter if you like metric and equal to a yard if you like Imperial - sort of like Schrödinger's measuring rod.
Now I'm getting into currency and...I just realized I don't know jack about economics. The econ I took in high school was really more just personal finance, managing credit, and budgeting, so the only actual economics I know is from a half semester of American Heritage at BYU explaining why capitalism rocks (the other half semester was about why federalism rocks). I've got the technology levels worked out, and a shorthand for social class and standard of living (cribbed partially from The Riddle of Steel and Exalted - one of these days I'll have to post on my influences), but I don't know how I'm going to account for x grams of gold buying y in one society and z in another (I do know that everyone is either on a gold standard or bartering).
So game design is on hold for a week while I deal with some real life stress and read The Wealth of Nations. The Game Design Survey has brought in a lot of feedback, and I'll close the poll and report the results at the end of this week.
