The worldbuilding is going much slower than I anticipated. I started a new draft shortly after the results of the game development survey, but these days it's still difficult for me to sit up and type for long periods. Voice recognition would be cool, but I don't know if I could train it to understand words like 'Harazi and Nehomin.
I started out with four headings: Land, History, People, and Institutions. I've since split these in to eight categories (anyone sensing a pattern?) of Land and Climate, Appearance, Values and Attitudes, History, Recent Events, Trade and Technology, Warfare, and Political Structure.
But what I've discovered when I write inside that framework is that I write in a very dry, clinical, encyclopedic style, which is certainly interesting but not fascinating, and I need it to be fascinating, because the world is my biggest selling point, and it's where I'm going to hook anyone who's undecided, first chapter and all that. So, once I'm done with the dry version (I'm at around 70% on this draft), I'll have to go over it again and baste it with color and magic. Mmmm, yeah.
